Emerging Technologies

I read an article about Facebook's new timeline. This article was about how the timeline help's people navigate through all of people's social network information, how it make's Facebook money, and a bunch of other stuff backing up how it's a great new emerging technology!

Questions.
  • Assumptions and inferences are very hard to make about the future, because the sky's the limit! Anything is possible in the future, and with all this new technology it seems like everything that was once a dream will be reality. I almost everything will be done through cell phone, fiber optics, and wireless internet. Also, I do believe there will be flying cars (first introduced to doctor's for third world countries, then to the public for faster transportation), and finally I believe Facebook will continue to improve it's social networks speed, accesibility, popularity, and much more!
  • What surprised me the most about the article I read on Facebook's timeline was that this new timeline is meant for so much more than just statuses, picture, and photos! Without the public even knowing it, they are marketing, building an online autobiography, making money, generating more and more users, and more! It's unbelievable.
  • The possibilities for the future in this area are limitless. You can go anywhere from here. Facebook can do anything from build each person there own portfolio, to selling buisnesses information and using people's information to build stronger advertising for them and others on the Internet.
  • Looking back at the list from 2009 I can conclude that there are 3out of the 10 emerging technologies being used now (from what I know to be being used). The first one is the intelligent software assistant, and this is everywhere! The best example of it is Siri, on the new iPhones, it's a smart computer to help you do tasks. The next is liquid battery, it's basically taking advantage of solar power at night. And everything from garden lights to car use solar power now! The last emerging technology used now is HashCache. And if I'm correct about this it is the action of storing information on the Internet to access anywhere. We just spent 3 weeks doing projects on this! Google Doc's is a great example of this. You can store information on the Internet so if your computer crashes you don't use it. There may be more technology mentioned then that is used now that I am just not aware of, but from what I know there is only 3! And they are life savers.
  • Emerging technologies is a great thing, there are SO many idea's and prototypes out there for use to yet explore and use. The possibilities are endless.

Wrap up/Reflection

Online Experience A has been a good class this trimester, one of the better classes so for. I think we are required to take this class because we always need to be updated on new technology and how to use it, and you need as much technology as you can get in the working world today.
Technology has changed majorly over the last 5 years! It has gone from a 2ft x 2ft box that took 20 mins to load and barely has internet, to less than an inch thick wireless laptop that's faster than the speed of light, it's amazing how far we've come! And this isn't the end, I think technology will go to the extreme in the next couple years, with computer screens floating in mid-air and everything wireless.
The technology I use for school work is endless, from computers to cell phones and printers to RSS feeds, the list goes on forever. And it's the same for personal use, everything I love using for recreation and fun can apply to my school work! That's the great thing about technology. The things I have learned in Online A will apply to my life everyday throughout the future. The stuff I learned like RSS feeds, iGoogle, gadgets and widgets, copyright, etc. Also, the most practical tool for lifelong learning for me would probably be RSS feeds, because they never stop providing information (with ease and comfort).
There has been some things in this class I don't think I'll ever use again, for example Voki's or Delicious. Even though I don't think I'll ever use Voki's again, they were super fun to create! But with every fun side, there is a downfall and that downfall (worst time creating) was the podcast's simply because they were embarrassing to record in front of everyone. All in all it was a great class this trimester and I can't wait for Online Experience B.
