Emerging Technologies
I read an article about Facebook's new timeline. This article was about how the timeline help's people navigate through all of people's social network information, how it make's Facebook money, and a bunch of other stuff backing up how it's a great new emerging technology!
Questions.
- Assumptions and inferences are very hard to make about the future, because the sky's the limit! Anything is possible in the future, and with all this new technology it seems like everything that was once a dream will be reality. I almost everything will be done through cell phone, fiber optics, and wireless internet. Also, I do believe there will be flying cars (first introduced to doctor's for third world countries, then to the public for faster transportation), and finally I believe Facebook will continue to improve it's social networks speed, accesibility, popularity, and much more!
- What surprised me the most about the article I read on Facebook's timeline was that this new timeline is meant for so much more than just statuses, picture, and photos! Without the public even knowing it, they are marketing, building an online autobiography, making money, generating more and more users, and more! It's unbelievable.
- The possibilities for the future in this area are limitless. You can go anywhere from here. Facebook can do anything from build each person there own portfolio, to selling buisnesses information and using people's information to build stronger advertising for them and others on the Internet.
- Looking back at the list from 2009 I can conclude that there are 3out of the 10 emerging technologies being used now (from what I know to be being used). The first one is the intelligent software assistant, and this is everywhere! The best example of it is Siri, on the new iPhones, it's a smart computer to help you do tasks. The next is liquid battery, it's basically taking advantage of solar power at night. And everything from garden lights to car use solar power now! The last emerging technology used now is HashCache. And if I'm correct about this it is the action of storing information on the Internet to access anywhere. We just spent 3 weeks doing projects on this! Google Doc's is a great example of this. You can store information on the Internet so if your computer crashes you don't use it. There may be more technology mentioned then that is used now that I am just not aware of, but from what I know there is only 3! And they are life savers.
- Emerging technologies is a great thing, there are SO many idea's and prototypes out there for use to yet explore and use. The possibilities are endless.

Wrap up/Reflection
Online Experience A has been a good class this trimester, one of the better classes so for. I think we are required to take this class because we always need to be updated on new technology and how to use it, and you need as much technology as you can get in the working world today.
Technology has changed majorly over the last 5 years! It has gone from a 2ft x 2ft box that took 20 mins to load and barely has internet, to less than an inch thick wireless laptop that's faster than the speed of light, it's amazing how far we've come! And this isn't the end, I think technology will go to the extreme in the next couple years, with computer screens floating in mid-air and everything wireless.
The technology I use for school work is endless, from computers to cell phones and printers to RSS feeds, the list goes on forever. And it's the same for personal use, everything I love using for recreation and fun can apply to my school work! That's the great thing about technology. The things I have learned in Online A will apply to my life everyday throughout the future. The stuff I learned like RSS feeds, iGoogle, gadgets and widgets, copyright, etc. Also, the most practical tool for lifelong learning for me would probably be RSS feeds, because they never stop providing information (with ease and comfort).
There has been some things in this class I don't think I'll ever use again, for example Voki's or Delicious. Even though I don't think I'll ever use Voki's again, they were super fun to create! But with every fun side, there is a downfall and that downfall (worst time creating) was the podcast's simply because they were embarrassing to record in front of everyone. All in all it was a great class this trimester and I can't wait for Online Experience B.

Podcast Post 2/23/12
I listened to a podcast about MLS soccer. It was a good podcast because it was two soccer educated people talking about everything going on in MLS soccer. I think this man created a podcast instead of written text because his podcast is with two people, not just one. Also, he is carrying a full conversation and it would be WAY to long to type out. The information here is defiantly some opinion and some fact. They have the facts of wins, players, stats, etc. They defiantly do express a lot of opinions about how much they like the MLS instead of, for example, the English Premier League. It is a really good podcast not only because in shows the fact of MLS, but also what other people are thinking about this league, I do like listening to podcasts a lot.

Voki vs. Blabberize
Voki and Blabberize were both websites that use customization, avatars, and audio to make a avatar talk or communicate somehow. They were similar because in both programs you choose an avatar to talk. Also in both programs you record your own voice through a microphone or by phone. Lastly, you could save and embed both of the avatars into a website or blog.
Some ways these two websites are different is their customization options, how they move, and backgrounds of the avatars. For example in Voki you can customize there whole entire face, colors and width/height. Also my Blabber person's mouth only moves, the Voki's whole entire face follows the cursor.
In my opinion, I think Voki was easier to use because you didn't have to find the mouth of the avatar like you did on Blabber. It was also easier to record your voice because in Blabberize my original microphone I was using didn't work on that website. So I would defiantly use Voki again, but if I needed to I would have no problem using Blabberize again.
I could use these in history class for projects on famous people in history, in English class for projects and many more.
All in all I like Voki a lot better because it was easier to use, but I would still use Blabber again.

Summary

The article I read was about how Groupon's stocked plunged. This website/business had a drop of $.08 cents on each one of it's stock the other day. Although that may not seem like a lot, it added up to $42.7 million dollars lost in revenue. This is just a minor jump/drop in the market, but it's not that big of a deal. The article says its not that big of a deal for most businesses to experience a little jump and drop in the market, it's normal. So don't worry if you hold stock in Groupon, it surely will go back up soon.

Reflection
Dear 6th grader,
I have really learned a lot about social networking, security, password protection, ID theft, etc and you can to. I have learned that the most important thing to remember when online is use common sense. You will most likely never get hurt online, have your ID stolen, or anything else bad if you just be smart and use common sense online. But if you want to have a good rep. and respect online defiantly use the 10 rules of netiquette. You will gain a lot more respect, dignity, and friends online through having proper netiquette. On the Internet you should only be using it for educational purposes, and stuff appropriate for your age. You should not be using social networking sites, adult websites, or downloading content without parent permission. Also, you should be a little concerned about ID theft now, not just in the future. Because someone right now could steal your SSN and then when you go to get your driver's license you could be denied. Someone you don't even know could ruin your life before your even in middle school.

Netiquette Blog Post Assignment
Netiquette is the set of rules for behaving properly online, and it affects pretty much everything. If you have bad netiquette on the Internet it will affect your ability to get a job, how people think of you online (your reputation), and much more. Some examples of good netiquette are remembering the human, being ethical, know where you are in cyberspace, don’t online bully, respect other people’s time, don’t flame, etc. Some examples of poor netiquette are typing in all caps, spamming people, cyber bullying, etc. Have good netiquette and people will respect you!

Explaining Social Networks
1. A social network is a place on the Internet to interact, communicate and talk to others. This is called social because you are with others, not just on the Internet to get information.
2. A digital footprint is the "footprint" you leave behind on the Internet. For example, if you post a status about how stupid McDonald's is on your social network, then go to get a job there, you left a bad footprint for the McDonald's people trying to hire you.
3. Social networking affects your footprint because anything you do on a social network is part of your digital footprint. So if you post a status about how stupid your boss is on a social network, then you boss see's that he is looking at your digital footprint. If he see's that he will probably fire you too. So always be careful on what you put your foot on, you don't want your digital footprint in the wrong place.

Copyright Summary
Copyright is illegal, simple as that. But illegal doesn't explain it all, there's many gray area's on whats legal and whats illegal. So what is actually illegal? Thanks for asking, lets find out! A journey through the mystical land of copyright, let's begin:
File sharing over the Internet isn't always illegal. For example if a new band wants to get their name and songs out there, they can upload them to the Internet so everyone can listen to them. It is illegal when a band that's BIG doesn't need to get there name out there, and people take there songs and upload them to the Internet to share. It's illegal because the big band doesn't want people to listen to there music for free, they want to make money. And if your getting it for free, there not making money, therefore your ripping them off, therefore its illegal.
All in all, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Trust me, Justin Bieber isn't giving out his latest hits for free, and if it says there free there is probably a virus involved. So don't get into the hassle of virus, government problems, computer crashes and more! Just buy your music and be done with it!
<----- FROSTWIRE IS ILLEGAL! DON'T USE IT!

ZZ Top vs. John Lee Hooker Copyright Case
This copyright case was to do with music. ZZ Top was accused of ripping off blues legend John Lee Hooker. Shortly after WWII, John Lee Hooker, along with Bernard Besman, wrote a classic blues song called Boogie Chillen. Hooker went on to record three versions of the song. Then in 1973 ZZ Top made a song named La Grange, and in 1991, Bernard Besman heard this song and got a case of deja vu. Then being head of La Cienega Music, the copyright owner of Boogie Chillen, Besman decided to sue against ZZ Top. The results of the case was the judge dismissed part of the suit stating that the 1948 single and 1950 remake were in the public domain.

Research Project Wrap Up
I think my research project actually went very well. I thought it went well because--surprisingly--North Korea is a hard place to find tourist attractions, but I still managed to do it. My favorite part of my project was finding out that N. Korea has do many beautiful places to visit and that it was sad that a lot of people aren't aloud to visit them! I still learned a ton about my country though, some things are it is very cultural, the governament is strict but not horribly strict, and they have some of the best museums in the world there. The most difficult task in my whole presentation was actually finding places to visit there because North Korea doesn't support tourism that much. Suggestions I have for future presentations is pick a better country to visit. All in all though, North Korea is actually a beautiful place, it's just sad a lot of people can't visit there.

My New Year in Review!
This last year of 2011 was very good. The highlight of this year was defiantly coming into high school because how much better it is than the Junior High, not only because its more people but also because there is more freedom. Your aloud to wear ripped pants and they're more lose on the rules.
My low point of 2011 would have to be every other week when I got in fights with my parents. I feel really bad about it and one of my new year's resolutions this year is to be nicer to them.
My goals for 2012 are simple, be more nice to my parents, workout every other day and grow.
If I was given $100,000 dollars I would immediatly put 75,000 of it in my bank account so I wouldn't accidentaly spend it all. Then I would buy nesecary things like a car for when I'm 16, new computer for the family, home repairs and then go to the mall and find everything else I want.
